Solomon Bliss New FCA Regional Coordinator

Solomon Bliss assumes FCA Regional Coordinator staff position

ROCHESTER, NYApril 6, 2015 – Major Lacrosse League Champion and two-time All-American Solomon Bliss has been an asset to the coaching ranks of FCA Northeast’s lacrosse ministry for the past few years, now Bliss will be taking on a new role as he organizes FCA camps, clinics and travel teams across the Northeast.

A Tully, New York native, Bliss played football, basketball and lacrosse at Tully High School. At Syracuse University, he played lacrosse all four years, where he captained the Orangemen in his final two years and won national championships in 2000 and 2002.  Bliss most recently played with the Hamilton Nationals, Bliss has played in the MLL for seven years.

As FCA’s Regional Community/Camp Coordinator, Bliss will be responsible for coordinating FCA camp and clinic programs, and spearheading an effort to get more kids from the Northeast to attend camps during the summer of 2015.  Per Bliss, the skill portion of the camps and clinics will remain within the camp director’s discretion, while he will work to create a unified focus on the ministry aspects of the camps to ensure all camp and clinic directors and counselors have a shared mission and goals.  “Our vision is one that includes a focus not only on players’ athletic skills, but also on sharpening their spirituality through a consistent sharing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ,” Bliss said.

The regional coordinator position emerged out of a growing number of kids and parents who are becoming involved in both lacrosse and other sports. “Although the lacrosse season is in the spring, we are seeing more and more kids coming out to do things outside of the actual season.  We need to be proactive so we can shepherd the flock, and introduce them to the Gospel in an excellent way that will honor God,” Bliss said.

FCA camps provide the opportunity for players to explore or grow in their Christian faith, with a focus on humility, truth and faith.  According to FCA Northeast’s Vice President of Field Ministry Sean McNamara, history has shown that FCA camps are a strong contributing factor to the growth of the ministry.  McNamara anticipates that having Bliss in this new role will have a significant impact: “Not only do we pray that FCA camps will have an eternal impact on the players that attend, and their families, but it is our hope that as we make an effort to get as many kids as possible from New England, New York City and upstate New York to camp, we will see an acceleration in the growth of FCA here.” McNamara said.

The addition of Bliss to the FCA Staff team, is a strategic hire by Northeast Region FCA to better support the rapidly growing lacrosse program. In addition Sol will provide support for all staff and volunteers so we are best positioned to expand to additional sports throughout the northeast region.
