Jeremy Sieverts and Sol Bliss to Coach Fellowship of Christian Athletes New Offense/Defense Camp

ROCHESTER, NYJuly 31, 2015 — Jeremy Sieverts and Sol Bliss will help take lacrosse players to the next level this summer at The Northeast Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ new Offense/Defense Camp, August 11-13, 2015 at McQuaid Jesuit HS.  The numbers for this camp have been capped to 24 offensive and 16 defensive players. It will include high quality, high level, very specific, individual instruction for older, more advanced lacrosse players.

According to FCA Northeast’s Vice President of Field Ministry Sean McNamara the Offense/Defense Camp emerged out of a need for higher-level skill development in the players.   “There were a lot of kids interested in taking their game to the next level, and we thought about things we could do that would involve dividing them up into offense and defense. I contacted Sol Bliss for the defense component, and then we reached out to Jeremy Sieverts for the offense,” McNamara said.

The players will be learning from the very best. The director for offense will be Star MLL midfielder Sieverts, currently a lead scorer with the Denver Outlaws.   Sieverts, who was named MLL Most Improved Player in 2012, ranks 8th in MLL history with 22 two-point goals and first in Outlaw history with 20 two-point goals, and fifth with 130 career points.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to be in Rochester to work with the next generation of lacrosse players in August.  We will be working hard at mastering the fundamentals, understanding offensive concepts, and technique improvement of skills used most on the offensive end of the field.  It is sure to be a challenging and exciting week,” Sieverts said.

MLL Champion and two-time All-American Bliss will coach the defense. Bliss played on national championship Syracuse teams in 2000 and 2002. Currently with the Hamilton Nationals, Bliss has played in the MLL for the past seven years.

Bliss believes that the combined “offense/defense” approach make this camp a unique offering. “There are a lot of offense and general lacrosse camps, but not too many defensive-specific camp, so this camp will fill up fast. Some of the goals for the defense will include working on the footwork and the positioning of the players, not so much taking the ball away, which they are going to be motivated to do. Good positioning is really what coaches want to see, as well as good stick work — when someone dodges from on top or from behind,” Bliss said.

Bliss also plans to focus on some one-on-one positions, where players will work to clear the ball and get it up to the offense. “The two man game has gotten more popular – we are seeing it more and more at the college level: where you are defending the screens in a box style, so we will be doing a lot of this at camp,” Bliss said.

Boys graduating between 2016-2024 are eligible, with space limited to 40 campers. Cost is $150.   For more information and to register, visit our website http://nefcalax.org/camps/ or contact Kathy Coler at kcoler@fca.org
