Clarkson University recruits FCA’s Ryan Butts

A few weeks ago, midfielder Ryan Butts (Hilton HS) announced his commitment to play at Clarkson University next year. We caught up with Ryan and asked him a few questions regarding the FCA and him selecting Clarkson University.

Find Ryan’s answers below:

1. Why did you and your family choose to play for FCA?

My family and I chose to play for FCA because my parents and I wanted me to have an opportunity to get the looks that I wanted and prepare me to play at the next level, while at the same time making friendships that would last a lifetime and that is exactly what FCA offered me.

2. What has the FCA meant to you?

FCA was so much more than just lacrosse to me. I got to meet some awesome people and play with them for 4 years. It was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Traveling to different states to meet tons of people and play with my best friends that I may even see on the field in college is an opportunity that I feel like you can’t turn down.

3. Who are your role models?

My role model is definitely my brother. He doesn’t play lacrosse but I look up to him a lot because of how hard he works to achieve his goals. He trained at the gym with me over the summer and pushed me because I wanted to have a memorable football season, and his persistence, perseverance, and work ethic really rubbed off on me. He’s taught me so many lessons not about just training at the gym but working hard to achieve something in your life that you want. I would want to deliver the same message to a younger FCA player like my brother did to me.

4. What do you enjoy most about playing for the FCA?

I enjoyed the friendships and hanging at the hotels just as much as I liked playing lacrosse honestly. I think that I’m going to look back on FCA, and not think about the games we won and lost, but I will remember all of the shenanigans that went on off the field, the team dinners at tournaments, or even staying up late at the team training camp at RIT and screwing around with my buddies. Those types of things are the things that I will remember in 10 years for sure.

5. Why did you choose Clarkson?

I chose Clarkson University because I would like to further my education in Civil Engineering at Clarkson University. I talked to Coach Bliss briefly at a winter practice about Clarkson and Coach Bliss had all good things to say about the school and the coach. It seems like it will be a good fit to me knowing that the school size isn’t that big and it will give me the education that I want.

Thank you to Ryan for answering these questions.
