Scott Barnard

Scott Barnard is the head men’s lacrosse coach at Hamilton College. Since taking over the program in 2006, he has coached his players to 25 all-conference honors, two Liberty League rookies of the year and one NESCAC player of the year title. In just their second season as part of the New England Small College Athletic Conference, Barnard and the Continentals reached the 2012 NESCAC Championship quarterfinals, and in 2011 Barnard led the team to an 11-3 record—the most wins in a season since 2006.

After coming to Christ in high school, Barnard played on the FCA Lacrosse team at the 1994 Vail Lacrosse Shootout in Vail, Colo. He was a two-time NJCAA academic All-American at Herkimer County Community College (1991, 1992) and helped captain the men’s lacrosse team to an undefeated national championship season in 1992. After HCCC, Barnard played at the University of Delaware, where he again served as captain, and made the North Atlantic Lacrosse Conference all-conference first team in 1993 and 1994.

Barnard earned his bachelor’s degree in physical education from Delaware and went on to complete his master’s in education from SUNY Cortland. While at Cortland he also began his lacrosse coaching career and remained there two seasons before joining the staff at HCCC as an assistant in 1996 while serving as an assistant professor of physical education. He helped coach HCCC to the national championship game in both 2003 as an assistant and 2005 as the head coach, winning the crown in the second attempt before taking over at Hamilton in 2006.

Barnard has been involved with FCA as both a player and a coach and hopes to help kids—including his own—learn how to compete for Christ. He and his wife, Courtney, live in Chittenango, N.Y., with their four children: Collin, Brooke, Caleb and Brendon.
